About Phoenix Park Visitor Centre - Ashtown Castle

The Phoenix Park is one of the most extensive and grandest city parks in Europe. The Visitors Centre itself provides an interesting exhibition on the history of the park and its wildlife dating as far back as 3,500 BC. Adjoining the Visitor Centre is the fully restored Ashtown Castle, a medieval tower house that probably dates from the 17th century.

• The biggest attraction of the Phoenix Park is the Dublin Zoo.This is a must for visitors to the Park who will find it a unique and exciting wildlife tour.
• There is a children's playground in Phoenix Park Centre and entry is free

• The fully restored Ashtown Castle which dates back to before the 17th century.
• The Victorian Kitchen Walled Garden, beside the Visitor Centre, is under restoration and is open to the public daily from 10.00 - 17.00.
• Hiring of Bikes; Visitors to the Park can hire bikes at the Parkgate St entrance and cycle freely through the Park.
• A shuttle bus service is in operation in the Park to transport passengers around the park. The terminus is at Luas bridge in Parkgate Street.
• A cottage garden is open to the public in the old walled gardens at Ashtown Visitor's Centre. The garden is shared between old-style cottage flowers and a vegetable growing area.
• The park has been inhabited by a herd of deer for hundreds of years and you are sure to spot one on your visit if you look closely!
